Homework 1: Who invented e-commerce, who invented www.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee is a British computer scientist. Born in London, his parents were early computer scientists. After graduating from Oxford University, Tim became a software engineer at CERN (A large physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland). Where scientists work from all over the world to use its accelerators, Sir Tim noticed that they were having issues with sharing information.

“In those days, there was different information on different computers, but you had to log on to different computers to get at it. Also, sometimes you had to learn a different program on each computer. Often it was just easier to go and ask people when they were having coffee…”, Tim says.

Sir Timothy saw a solution for this problem - to connect millions of computers together through fast-developing internet by using hypertext technology.

In 1979, English inventor Michael Aldrich introduced and pioneered what would eventually become as e-commerce by connecting television and telephone lines.

Later on, he invented a system which advertised goods and services on television, giving viewers the ability to call in to a proccesing center to place orders. Aldrich called his system "Teleshopping."
